The Science Behind Healthy at Any Size Movement
I am sure that at one time or another you have probably heard about the “Healthy at Any Size” movement. The idea of this movement is that you can be overweight but be physiologically healthy. There is a generalized thought that is you are obese this probably means that you are a diabetic, your cholesterol must be high, you must have chronic disease markers present in your systems, this is not true in some cases.
What is adipose tissue? This is a great question and is easily answered. Adipose tissue is physiological term for body fat within the body. It is found under the skin (subcutaneous) and around the internal organ (visceral fat).
To explain the Healthy at Any Size Movement, one needs to understands the different types of fat growth mechanisms:
Hypertrophic cells – this is a type of fat cell that increases in size
Hyperplastic cells - this type of cells remains relatively the same size but multiplies in number.
Genetics play a large role in what type of cell you may have.
