Cardio Vs. Resistance Training

Cardio vs. Weight Training: Which is Better for Weight Loss?

I cannot tell you how many times someone has come up to me and said I am doing so much cardio and not losing any weight or I work out 3-5 times a week but my muscles are any bigger. There are so many reasons for these questions. Too many for just one blog post, so let's take it back to a generalized “which one should I do – lift or cardio?”

The answer to this is goal dependent! If you are someone who wants to lose inches and become marathon runner skinny. Yes, cardio is the answer for you. If you want to become a stronger version of yourself resistance training is for you! But here is the kicker, if you want to lose weight, avoid saggy skin, become toned and become over all healthier the answer is BOTH!

There is a balance that needs to be found individually between cardio and resistance training in order to achieve your goals. With too much cardio you will probably notice your muscles wasting away, this is because your body begins to rely on muscular energy to feed itself to keep going. If you notice that you aren’t trimming fat as much as you would like adding a bit more cardio will most likely help induce accelerated fat loss.

As I mentioned before, this is a question that can be answer based on your goals. But in my opinion and for the longest lasting results I believe that a mix of both cardiovascular activity and resistance training is the most plausible answer!

Yours truly,

Meg
