Vitamin K2 and COVID-19

Vitamin K is essential in the production and maintenance of connection fibers, including elastin which is involved in pulmonary and cardiovascular disease. A recent study has shown patients with reduced levels of vitamin k2 tended to have a poorer prognosis of the recent disease COVID-19 (2020). Because of the lower levels of vitamin k2 there were higher incidence of breakdown of connection fibers. Those with severe COVID-19 also tend to have comorbidities associated with lower levels of K2 such as Type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, and hypertension (2020). 


In all studies suggest that improved vitamin k2 levels may improve the body’s natural ability to cope with this disease! Mind you more studies are to be done before this because official! But there is no harm in taking a vitamin ðŸ˜Š  


Vitamin K2 has some great other benefits as well! This vitamin activates proteins that play a role in blood clotting, calcium metabolism and heat health (Leech, 2020). One of its most important jobs is to regulate calcium deposition, by promoting the calcification of bones and prevents the calcification of blood vessels and kidneys (Leech, 2020). Vitamin K can be found in leafy greens, animal products as well as fermented foods!
