Getting Back to The Gym!

Exercise in the time of coronavirus: How to work out safely in a ...

As we all know gyms have been open for a while now. Some people have opted to go back and others not. Both are absolutely fine! Let's talk a bit about how to prepare ourselves for returning to the gym!

  1. Lifting heavy – prior to gyms closing you may have been squatting 100+ pounds and deadlifting 200. Well the reality is, unless you have a home gym you have probably lost some of the muscle mass that allowed you to do this safely. You will probably not be starting from scratch but I will have to work your way back up to those heavier weights in order to prevent injury.

  1. Scheduling – most gym is having you book a time slot to workout which is great for many reasons! You can treat it like an appointment that you can't miss. This keeps you accountable for those times you’ve scheduled.

  1. Pack lightly – Most fitness centers are not allowing use of the locker room. This means you have to keep your bag by your side. So, you want to make sure that your bag doesn’t weigh 50lbs (mine always does haha). Try only taking in the essentials, water bottle, towel, and headphones.

  2.

I hate to say this is the “new normal” but for now it is and in order for us to live healthy and be safe there are some things we have to consider!

Exercise safely, stay healthy!
