Setting Up for Success

Setting yourself up for success is all about creating opportunities and optimal conditions for success. For centuries the classic gym goer spoke about 3 things: the gym, gain and meal prep. This is their life. They eat, sleep and work out..

Just kidding, but not really haha. A big part of reaching goals is to be ORGANIZED. I have preached this before and I will preach it again because it is so important. One thing that can EASILY HOLD US BACK from reaching our goals is FOOD. I have found that this is  a make or break for myself and through meal prepping I have found it soooo much easier to REACH GOALS, AVOID CRAVINGS & BE HEALTHY.

You may ask how? When? Well, the answer is simple. It starts with grocery shopping, I only shop along the outside becauseI know this is where stores carry their nutritionally dense foods! I also make a list of exactly what I need to prep my meals and snacks. Yes, I prep my snacks too.

My weekly buys:

  • Apples
  • Chicken
  • Fish
  • Basmati rice
  • Frozen\fresh veggies
  • Almond or oat milk
  • Lemons
  • Nuts (walnuts or peanuts)

From this list I can create some great meals, my instagram page @rkinmeg has some recipes! But my go tos is the classic chicken, rice and veg OR a burrito bowl. OH how I love burrito bowls! When it comes to prepping snacks as soon as I get home from the grocery store I will wash veggies and pre cut them so that they are ready for eating. One reason why we eat processed foods is because it is easily accessible. So I make my healthier food easily accessible by prepping them in advance to that when I am craving a snack I can eat celery, carrots, or peppers (that is already cut) with some hummus. Rather than binging on candy and chocolate!

When I prep my meals I prep for 3-4 days at a time, mainly lunches because I work during the day. I love to cook so I choose to make dinner fresh everyday, this way I know if I am missing something in my diet for the day I can add it to dinner. Meal prep takes me about 2hours (including cooking time) and I do this on Sunday’s.

If you are planning to meal prep, invest in some good containers. I prefer glass bottom containers but you can order meal prepping containers on amazon for $20. In terms of recipes I use Pinterest, this is a GREAT source because it tells you exactly what you need and how much!

Meal prepping has changed the way I see cooking and has helped me and MANY others reach their goals!

Yours truly,

Meg
