Rest & Relax
Rest time. This is the hardest part for me but it is very important to an effective workout. Your rest time allows for your muscle to rest to a point where they can be maximally recruited for the next set! This means you will get more work out of your muscles in the given time!
Without getting too sciency on your guys, the reason we rest is to replenish phosphagen stores (produces energy quickly). Traditionally, the rest time is no longer than a minute. But this also depends on which rep range you are working at also. The lower your rep range the higher your rest period. But the rest time normally never goes over 5 minutes. Basically I am saying there is a sweet spot for rest times!
The best way to keep track of this is to set a timer on your phone. Otherwise, if you are like me you will “forget” to do your next set because you get distracted! The only exception to this rule is circuit style training, where the rest time is minimal!
Yours truly,
Meg
