Adulting
At some point in everyone’s life we realize HOLY CRAP I AM AN ADULT. This normally happens in the busiest time of our life. University or College. This is when you move out of your parents' homes into residence or an apartment\house. You have to start paying bills, buying groceries, making your own appointments and so many adult things.
Here are some tips I found made my life easier!
- If you move to another town or province\state or country find yourself a good doctor! The best way to do this is to ask your current doctor if they have any recommendations. Most doctors will or they will find a contact who would. This goes the same for a dentist!
- Buying groceries, most of us had NO CLUE how to do this. The best way to prepare yourself for this as to not eat out ALL THE TIME and gain freshman 15 is to make a detailed list. Buying for one person can be REALLY hard and takes some practice. Think about each meal you plan on making in the week and buy accordingly. TIP: Almond milks expiration date is much later than dairy milk. I am not much of a milk drinker so I found almond milk not only tastes better but I don’t waste any of it.
- Use a calendar. This is a great way to write down your class schedule, appointments, meetings but also deliveries, garbage and recycling days and when bills are due. I still do this 3 years after University!
- Time blocking was a great way to make sure I studied, got my work done, went to work and still made times for social activities. If I knew that I wanted to hang out with my friends after dinner but I had a big paper or an exam to write I would time block my week\day giving myself a certain amount of time to study or work on the paper. This is great because most of us only work efficiently for a certain amount of time and after that you are just wasting time. Might as well block the optimal time for studying and move on to the next thing after that!
Adulting can be hard but you will eventually get the hang of it. But if I could only advise one thing I would say that the calendar was the best tip I ever got! You will find what works best for you, but don’t be afraid to try new things because you never know they may help you immensely!
Yours truly,
Meg
