Sore Back?

Do you ever have a sore back and feel like nothing has helped you? Do you move very rigidly when leaning back?

Unfortunately this is not uncommon. Many people have little to no passive range of motion in their upper backs. There is one simple movement that still actively helps me with back pain. Therefore I continue to do this proactively to improve my thoracic (mid back) range of motion. This is called the Thoracic Extension. This is done with a foam roller that is placed on the upper 2\3 of the back and with gravity’s help you lean back this forces your back into extension - sounds painful but it's not - you go as far as you feel comfortable and then work your way down.

Another exercise that has helped me is the Seated Spinal Twist. This will give you a stretch mainly in the obliques and latissimus dorsi. This is great because you can be sitting at a desk, on the floor or on your bed. Pretty much anywhere that you can be in a seated position, which nowadays that's everywhere.

Take a few minutes a day and do this for you! You will not regret it. If both these exercises are done on a consistent basis they can be very effective! Let’s live in a world where back pain is not the norm!

Yours truly,

Meg
