At Home Work Out Essentials
What better way to start a fitness journey than in the comforts of your own home! SO many fitness professionals start out their passion for fitness in their house, whether it be a bedroom, basement, living room garage, or if you are lucky outside in a backyard. Here are a few tips and essentials that you will need to start:
A workout space: I cannot express how important this space is. You need to find a space you feel comfortable working out in, whether that’s in your bedroom, the basement or the middle of your living room. It needs to be a space that can easily be cleared so that you can safely move around!
Resistance bands: one of the most versatile pieces of equipment out there! There are so many types with different weights to them (light - heavy). Biggest tip I can give you when buying a resistance band is spend the extra $10 and get something that will last. For years I used the little plastic ones that cost like $5 dollars on amazon and you get 4 different weights. Truth is I use one of them and only for upper body because if I use it on my legs it will:
- Cut my circulation or
- Roll into a tiny painful elastic
I have a PeachBands are GREAT and so are ATHENAs! I will NEVER go back to those cheap old ones AGAIN.
Music: this can change an entire workout and mood! When you aren’t in the “mood” to workout, put on some great tunes and dance away. That’s almost ALWAYS getting me in the mood! I have posted about this before but listen to something to match the heart rate you are looking for example 120 beats per minute (bpm). This will make your workout more effective!
Yoga mat: don’t underestimate the power of a yoga mat. It is not just used for Yoga! It is a great tool to have if you are doing any movement lying on your back or stomach or KNEES. If you are sure about this purchase - YOU CAN BUY THESE AT DOLLARAMA ($4 - I know not a dollar but worth it).
Motivation and routine: this is probably the most important thing you need. The motivation to start and keep yourself on a routine. Once you are on a routine your body WILL crave the movement. Making it easier and easier to find the motivation to do your workout.
I am sure that once you get going your list will be much longer than mine and like me you will start accumulating things that you question why in the heck you bought it and what it is for. Another great addition to keep things interesting is a partner, or access to Youtube - the workouts you can find here are limitless! Goodluck, grab your partner and a water bottle and get started!
Yours truly,
Meg
