Matcha Over Coffee

Matcha - Wikipedia

Alright, this blog has been a long time coming. I am an avid coffee drinker, I mean the 2-3 cups a day just because I like the taste kind of person. A while ago I discovered matcha (I know, it has been around a while, I live under a rock).

I have discovered that I LOVE the taste of matcha as much if not more than coffee. A few reasons why I love matcha are:

  • Unlike coffee matcha doesn’t seem to follow with a crash, whereas when I am drinking coffee an hour or so after finishing my cup I could use a nap! With research I found that coffee increases the adrenaline, glucose and insulin levels in your body (obviously) causing a high in energy and resulting in a crash (Link, 2020). Matcha on the other had create a sense of calm alertness, this is because of the slower absorption of the caffeine due to the L-theanine in the matcha (Link, 2020).
  • Matcha is better for your teeth! It does not leave coffee stains ðŸ˜Š
  • Matcha is better for your skin because it is full of antioxidants. Matcha is full of catechins, flavonoids and polyphenols which have great health benefits (Link, 2020)!

I will probably never give up drinking coffee but I will definitely incorporate more matcha into my life knowing all the amazing benefits that come with it!

All this to say I believe that matcha is the perfect marriage of coffee and tea, you get the caffeine without the crash and the health benefits of tea!
