Healthy Habits Make You Live Longer
Have you ever sat down to think “I want to live forever”. I cannot promise you to live forever but recent research has found that have healthy habits in your life can make you live longer (that’s a close second right?)
Researchers found that people who maintain five healthy lifestyle factors lived more than a decade longer than those you did not! By living a healthy lifestyle, we can actually live longer. Seem simple right? But for most people it is not, it's complicated. It is trial and error. Bad habits are hard to break.
Yes, the “I will start tomorrow”, so many people use but never live up to is a BAD HABIT. Lucky for you, it can be changed positively. Like Nike says “JUST DO IT”. Instead of waiting for all these tomorrows, do it today, right now. Make a healthy choice for yourself, your kids, your family!
An unhealthy lifestyle greatly increases your risk of death by chronic disease (Hicklin, 2018). By adding some healthier choices to your life, you become less and less at risk for these diseases.
Hicklin wrote about the five lifestyle changes the subjects in the study had to make:
- Healthy eating pattern (eating recommended amounts of veg, fruit, nut, whole grains ect.
- Not smoking
- Getting at least 3.5 hours of moderate to vigorous physical activity a week
- Drinking only moderate amounts of alcohol
- Maintaining an appropriate weight
Applying one healthy habit until it is mastered and becomes easy, then moving on to the next may seem too long, but this is actually the most effective way. This way you are not changing everything in your life at one time creating loads of stress which can ultimately lead you to rebound. It is a gradual and successful approach.
TOUGHT: Even if you have one “bad day” a week, you just had 6 great days. That is 6 more days that you have had. That could have been 6 days that were all “bad days”. I put bad days in quotation marks, because we all have them, this doesn’t mean they are bad. If none of us had bad days we would all be perfect and what fun would the world be if we were perfect haha.
